free seating on board so we had to walk faster once the gate was open to q up. managed to get a seat in the middle but realised our view was blocked by the wing so shifted to another row of empty seats later on coz the plane wasnt fully occupied. met one of my company's ex HR girl. she was on the same flight and also met her at pratunam fashion mall n chatuchak. small world~~
leg space (possible cause of economy class syndrome ;p) wet weather in sg. luckily rain stopped b4 we board coz we had to walk out to the steps leading to the plane view of thailand the new bangkok airport is freaking big! tink the design made it really long so we had to walk at least 1-2km from our arrival gate to the check out area. the lighting along the way was pretty dark n tink thats why it would seem a little spooky at night n thus the rumors that it was "haunted". had abit a trouble finding our pick up this time round. unlike the previous airport where there was onli one main pick up area, the new airport had so many that we couldnt find our agency until abt 10-15min later n after walking thru n fro in the departure hall until we realised where the exact location they asked us to wait was at ;p
due to slight jam as usual. reached hotel ard 12plus one juz on time to check in. dropped our things n went to pratunam fashion mall nearby for lunch n shopping. luv their foodcourt for their variety n cleaniless. shd really go there when u go. managed to get a couple of clothes n accessories each b4 going off ard 6plus back to our hotel to drop our things n proceed to suan lum nite bazaar.
pratunam fashion mall view of baiyoke hotel n baiyoke sky hotel fr pratunam fashion mall pratunam area (looks small here but actually lotsa stalls n shops inside! green mango salad (sold by a good looking thai guy @ the food court ;p) taste like chinese dry hor fun thai dessert n crepe nice foodcourt didnt shop much there, more window shopping coz things werent that cheap there n plus we were going chatuchak the next day so expecting better bargains there. dinner @ the nice open air food court n even caught a ride on the ferris wheel. decided to return to the hotel since it was oredi 10 plus.
ferris wheel @ suan lum night bazaar stage @ open air food centre dinner food stalls views of suan lum fr above the ferris wheel day 2 (chatuchak-khao san) woke up early for breakfast n prepare for our trip to chatuchak. didnt go for the free half dat tour coz it was a waste of time. was glad to find that it was still as big n full of things as ever that i cant even figure out which part was destroyed at all. both of us started buying things even on the way in. it was definitely cooler in the morning so we walked along the main street within 1st b4 venturing into the maze of shops.
trolley services for those who r buying lotsa things shops selling doggies n stuff bought lotsa doggy snacks, 2 dozen packs, as usual n even bought 2 really cute doggy beds for my pups. even though bulky, it was pretty light. rachel was helping her bf's sis to get doggy clothes as well. the 2 of us were so engrossed n tired from shopping that we werent hungry at all. decided to go off ard 4 coz we were carrying way too much things to be able to squeeze into the narrow alleys.
so cute, baby chihuahua drinking coke! looks like our g.g. boy @ home :P
back to hotel for a little rest. went for dinner at this nice pizza company nearby. wanted to check out pratunam street but realised it didnt open till late so went off to khao san on a cab coz rachel wanted to check it out. khao san is this famous area where backpackers hung out coz there are lotsa cheap guest houses n budget accomodation as well as pubs and shops. wanted to check it out previously but it was out of the way, all the way near the palace area n the onli way to get there was via cab or tuk tuk. overall it was a really onli one stretch or street that u can explore within an hr unless u r the sort who likes pubs.
khao san rachel was hungry @ nite so we went out in our specs n all @ 11plus to a 7-11 nearby to buy cup noodles n bring back to our hotel day 3 (erawan shrine-central world plaza-siam square-bonanza mall-mbk) as tradition, visited the 4 face buddha @ erawan shrine for prayers and to see the new buddha statue. the original was destroyed a yr ago aft i saw it on my last trip there. went over to central world plaza to visit naraya, the famous bag shop, to grab some gifts. central world plaza was rally revamped fr the last time i went. previously it was those sleepy old shopping centre but now it was like those taka wisma type of shopping centre. even naraya looked so much classier but luckily price was still the same. lotsa female tourist with basketful of merchandise esp the jap tourists. spent ard an hr there ;p
took a walk via the pathway attached to the bts track thus allowing pedestrians to walk in the street above ground instead of the dusty roads below. most of the shopping centres were linked to it to you could juz turn out to any of them along the way. brought rachel to siam sq which i thot as usual was onli so-so but since it was along the way, might as well check it out.
this time round found a new shopping centre, i.e. bonanza mall, which was directly opposite mbk. it was a 3 story shopping centre which felt abit like bugis st coz of the small shopz there n lotsa local youngsters there. while rachel got her nails done at one of the cheap mani/pedi shops, me ventured in to check it out abit n shop 1st.
rachel gettin her nails done bonanza mall mbk was next. was there mostly for buying local food pdts back n for the 199bht bag shops. else then those. pretty much nothing else worth shopping for except for donuts, food n imitation branded stuff.
back to hotel to drop things off ard evening coz thinking of going to pratunam fashion mall @ nite but were shocked to find that it closes at 8pm n by 7plus, almost all the shops have closed *sobs* onli had time to grab dinner @ kfc. no choice but to be good girls n go back to the hotel early to start packing. day 4 (pratunam-bkk int'l airport-sg)
left with half a day to shop so in order to make up for the loss the previous day, got up at 6.30am n checked out early ard 8plus after breakfast so that we could hit pratunam early.
rachel's luggage mine pratunam was this huge wholesal mkt for clothes nearby our hotel n the clothes, belts, bags, shoes n accessories there were ridiculously cheap compared to sg. t-shirts, belts n necklaces could cost sgd2-3, jeans, shirts, skirts, shoes etc cost less than $10. it was paradise!!! both of us manage to get a bundle of things, esp rachel who now has enough new clothes for chinese new yr :P... tink we shd spend more time there in future. alley in pratunam
stopped shopping ard 12plus for lunch n go back to hotel to wait for our transport n partly coz we had no funds left to do more shopping :P transport didnt come as early as we thot so spent time rotting away on the sofa in the lobby. mad rush to airport coz by the time we reach, it was near our check in time n me n rachel needed to stuff the things we bought into the luggages :P. was pretty sure rachel n me had the most luggage per pax as compared to the others coz our whole trolley was full. tink hit 36.6kg instead of the "legal" 30kg for 2 paz but the person let us off maybe coz there were otheres with much less luggage. heng arh~~~
partial view of the new bkk int'l airport
then came the 1-2km walk again fr the check in place to our gate. made a mad rush for it only to realise we were actually there early. only us n another older couple ard. anyway, we didnt hv any $$ to shop at the dfs either so might as well get a good seat later on the flight. no delays this time round unlike to old airport. the budget flights were really efficient coz i estimated it only took 15-20 min for them to unload the incoming passengers n to load it with our luggage, refuel etc b4 it was ready for us to board. the plane literally hv no rest time in btw.
flight back was mostly sleeping partly coz not enough sleep in the morning n damn hungry but wasnt willing to spend $4 on cup noodles or $5-7 on sandwich on board. btw there was this stupid m'sian couple in their twenties in front ours was damn irritating. itz common sense that u cant on handphone n they were dat dumb enough to on it to blast music fr itz speakere. so irritated by them esp after they ignore the steward's instructions to off it that when the next stewardess came by, i told directly they had their handphone on. the girl tried to hide it but we could still hear the mp3. the stupid guy even had the cheek to ask y they cant on it!!! nvr take flight b4 huh???!!! must let stewardess explain dat it will interfere with the plane's navigation. stupid idiots!!!
nice view of a river meander
anyway, overall a totally great trip!!! looking forward to the next :))
latte boy decided he like this colour more :P puppies checking out their beds :P
